  • No guaranteed data recovery. I can attempt recovery from failed drives or corrupted systems, but I don't guarantee results, and I'm not a substitute for a dedicated data recovery lab for critical or irreplaceable data.
  • No compliance-certified work. I don't currently offer HIPAA, PCI-DSS, SOC 2, or CMMC compliance services. If your business is legally required to meet one of these standards, you need a specialist certified in that framework.
  • No licensed electrical work. I run low-voltage cable (network, PoE) — I'm not a licensed electrician and won't do line-voltage electrical work.
  • No 24/7 or same-day weekday emergency support. This is a nights/weekends operation alongside a full-time job. Retainer clients get clear response-time expectations, not always-on coverage.
  • No large-enterprise network scope. Realistic capacity is homes and small businesses — roughly up to 10–15 devices or users. Larger environments need a bigger team.
  • No warranty on third-party hardware. Manufacturer warranties apply as-is; I'll help with RMA processes but don't extend my own hardware warranty.

FAQ

Common questions

How does pricing work?

Troubleshooting runs $65/hr remote or $85/hr on-site. Network setup and optimization starts at $250, with full builds scoped after an assessment. Ongoing small-business support starts at $250/mo. Every job gets a clear quote before work starts — no surprises.

What area do you cover?

On-site: roughly 45–50 miles around Columbus, KS — including Joplin, Pittsburg, Baxter Springs, and Fort Scott. Remote: anywhere in the four-state region, no distance limit.

When are you available?

On-site jobs run Friday through Sunday; remote work is scheduled flexibly around evenings. This is a nights-and-weekends operation alongside a full-time IT job — that's stated up front so response expectations are honest.

Do you work with both homes and businesses?

Yes — homes and small businesses up to roughly 10–15 devices or users. Larger environments need a bigger team than one person, and I'll say so rather than overpromise.

Is remote support secure?

Remote sessions happen over a secure, encrypted connection, only with your permission. I hold the CompTIA Security+ certification and work full-time in IT and cybersecurity support.

Is there anything you don't do?

Yes, and it's listed plainly in the scope section — no guaranteed data recovery, no compliance-certified work, no line-voltage electrical, no 24/7 coverage, no large-enterprise networks.

About

The person behind Four State Uplink.

Built on the same infrastructure I run at home.

I've spent [X years] supporting internet service provider customers directly — diagnosing connection problems, walking people through router and network issues, and fixing things that "should just work" but didn't. That's where the troubleshooting instinct comes from.

Outside of work, I run a home lab: real servers, VLANs, firewalls, and self-hosted services, built and rebuilt the way most people only read about. It's not a resume line — it's the same gear and the same configurations I bring to client networks, tested on my own equipment first.

I currently work full-time in IT and cybersecurity support, which keeps me current on the tools and threats that matter for small networks — patching discipline, secure remote access, and knowing when something's actually a risk versus just an inconvenience. This business runs nights and weekends alongside that job, with the goal of eventually becoming my full-time focus.

I'm not trying to be the cheapest computer repair shop in town. I'm the person who sets up your network — or your small business's systems — so it actually holds up, and can explain what I did and why in plain language.
